This project is designed for a student to demonstrate their ability to:

In this second part, you’ll compute descriptive statistics on the data set you chose in part 1, and complete a hypothesis test.

Step 1: Take a Sample

  • From the data set you chose in Part 1, randomly select 36 data values and enter them into a 6×6 table in your document – label this table with a description of what the data represents.

Step 2: Compute Descriptive Statistics

  • Compute the mean and standard deviation for the sample of 36 values.

Step 3: Perform a Hypothesis Test

  • Copy the statement you made about estimating the mean of the data set in Step 4 of Part 1.
  • That statement is what you will base your hypothesis test on – you will test that prediction/estimation
    • State the level of confidence you have decided to use for the test
    • State the null H0 and alternative H1 hypotheses with BOTH words and symbols. (If you don’t know how to get a symbol like μ or other symbols into your document file, please Google how to do it).
    • State whether the test is left-, right- or two-tailed
    • State whether you need to use the normal (z) or Student’s t-distribution and why. If Student’s t, also state the degrees of freedom.
